Walmart purchase orders to Excel
Walmart sends purchase orders as EDI 850 transactions, and suppliers review them in Supplier One’s Order Management area while PO changes are still made in NOVA inside Retail Link. To get Walmart POs into one order sheet, take the PO data from the tool that receives your EDI, add one row per PO line, convert every quantity to the same pack level using VNPK, and plan the ship date back from the Must Arrive By Date (MABD).

How Walmart purchase orders reach you
- EDI 850Walmart sends purchase orders as EDI 850 transactions carrying the items, quantities, prices and required dates, including the Must Arrive By Date. Walmart publishes its drop ship (DSV) 850 specification on its developer site.
- Supplier OneWalmart’s supplier portal, launched in 2024, has an Order Management area where suppliers track and review POs. It sits alongside Retail Link rather than replacing it.
- NOVA in Retail LinkPO changes are still made in NOVA, an app inside Retail Link, not in Supplier One.
- Web EDI through a providerEDI providers describe web EDI options for suppliers without their own EDI system, where POs are viewed and ship notices and invoices are keyed in. Ask your provider which exports it offers.
Fields on a Walmart PO and where they go in your sheet
| On the Walmart PO | In your order sheet | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| PO number | PO number | One PO usually covers several items. Add one row per PO line, not one row per PO. |
| Order type (Owned or DSV) | Channel or Notes | Supplier One shows whether a PO is Owned or drop ship (DSV). They ship differently, so keep them apart in the sheet. |
| Walmart Item Number | SKU (mapped) | Walmart’s number, not yours. Keep a small table that maps it to your own SKU so totals by SKU line up across channels. |
| Vendor’s part number / UPC | SKU / Item | In the DSV 850 these sit in PO111 (vendor’s part number) and PO109 (UPC), next to the Walmart item in PO107. Match on your own part number first. |
| VNPK (vendor pack) | Case pack | The case you ship to the distribution center. |
| WHPK (warehouse pack) | Notes | The box inside the vendor pack that holds one or more eaches. Do not count it as a case. |
| Quantity and unit of measure | Cases | Check the unit. The DSV 850 orders in eaches (EA). Divide eaches by VNPK to get cases before you add up. |
| Unit price | Unit price | In the DSV 850 this is PO104. |
| MABD (Must Arrive By Date) | Ship by | An arrival date, not a ship date. Subtract transit days before you write it in Ship by. |
What you send back
- PO acknowledgment (EDI 855)
- Walmart publishes an 855 specification. Whether and when you must send it depends on your supplier setup, so check your onboarding documents.
- Ship notice (EDI 856)
- Walmart publishes an 856 specification. Confirm the timing that applies to you in your supplier agreement.
- PO changes
- Made in NOVA inside Retail Link. Changes and acknowledgments never travel inside the 850 itself.
- On-time, in-full (OTIF)
- Walmart fines suppliers for late or incomplete deliveries. Trade press has reported the fine as 3% of the cost of goods on non-compliant cases.
Where it goes wrong
- Two systems for one PO. You review it in Supplier One but change it in NOVA, so the sheet has to follow both.
- Three quantity levels: vendor packs (VNPK), warehouse packs (WHPK) and eaches. Mixing them up is the fastest way to ship short or over.
- Changes arrive as separate transactions, so a sheet built from the first PO goes stale without anyone noticing.
- MABD is an arrival date. Treating it as the ship date is how on-time scores slip.
Turn Walmart POs into one order sheet
- 1Take the PO data from the tool that receives your Walmart EDI: your EDI provider’s portal, your ERP, or Supplier One’s Order Management view.
- 2Add one row per PO line with the PO number, order type, Walmart item number mapped to your SKU, quantity and pack.
- 3Convert every quantity to cases. If a line is in eaches, divide by the vendor pack (VNPK).
- 4Write the ship date as MABD minus transit days, then check totals by SKU against stock before you acknowledge.
- 5When NOVA shows a change, add it as a note or a new row instead of overwriting the original line.
In Markhub
Combine Walmart POs with every other channel
- 1Download the day’s Walmart POs the way you already do, and post the files in Markhub with the other channels’ files, as csv, xlsx or pdf.
- 2The Order Consolidator agent reads every file and fills one sheet, one row per line, with totals by SKU.
- 3You check short lines and changes, then confirm in Walmart’s own system. Markhub prepares the sheet and does not send anything to Walmart.
Then add the Order Consolidator from the agent library in your workspace.
Questions
Can I download Walmart POs as a spreadsheet?
Walmart’s public documentation does not describe a spreadsheet download. Most suppliers get the data from the tool that receives their EDI 850, such as an EDI provider portal or their ERP, and export it from there.
What is the difference between VNPK and WHPK?
VNPK is the vendor pack, the case you ship to the distribution center. WHPK is the warehouse pack, the box inside it that holds one or more eaches.
What is MABD?
Must Arrive By Date. It is the date the order has to arrive, and it appears on the PO in Supplier One. Plan the ship date backwards from it.
Does Markhub connect to Walmart?
No. Markhub does not connect to Retail Link, Supplier One or your EDI. You post the PO files you already export, and the Order Consolidator agent combines them with your other channels in one sheet for a person to review.
